[...] We have already seen a list of Democratic priorities that may be enacted if and when liberals wield power after the midterms. But here is some more from a recent Newsweek piece profiling a Dem majority: Dingell is careful to say he is not out to get George W. Bush, or the Republicans, and insists he will extend his hand to his GOP colleagues and conduct “oversight thoughtfully and responsibly.” He says “there’s no list” of things he wants to investigate. But in the next breath, he quickly ticks off a list of things he wants to investigate: The Bush administration’s handling of port security and the threat of nuclear smuggling; computer privacy; climate change; concentration of media ownership; the new Medicare Part D program, which he calls a “massive scandal,” and the secret meetings of Vice President Dick Cheney’s energy task force. “This is a hardheaded administration,” Dingell says. “So we’ll probably have lots of hearings.”The House of Representatives is full of John Dingell Democrats—exiled committee chairmen awaiting the day they can reclaim the center chair on the dais. All carry lists—if only in their heads—of issues and outrages they believe Republicans have failed to probe because such questions would be politically embarrassing to the president. Henry Waxman of California is another Democratic old-timer whose ire never dims. A tireless investigator, he’s in line to head the Government Reform Committee, and plans to take aim at Halliburton and alleged rip-offs and contract abuse in Iraq. Then there’s Charles Rangel, the New York congressman who’s never met a cable show he didn’t like. He is set to take over the Ways and Means Committee, and wants to take a hard look at the Bush tax cuts. John Conyers of Michigan has waited for years to head the Judiciary Committee. He’s likely to convene hearings on the Patriot Act and domestic wiretapping. In the past, he has suggested the possibility of impeachment hearings for President Bush. “When the Clinton administration was in office, there was no accusation too small for the Republicans to rush out the subpoenas,” Waxman says. “When Bush became president, there wasn’t a scandal big enough for them to ignore.” [...]

The Libs have nothing to offer except more regulation in the vein of Stalin.

The common sense interpritation of the Democratic party platform

1.)Kill the babies and save the caribou. Aborition is fine but don't you dare drill for oil in ANWAR.

2.) No photos IDs at the polling places ... how else can we get illegals and dead people to vote?

3.) Tax you to death since we know how to spend your money better than you do.

4.) Everything is Bush's fault.

If the Libs win back the House, we are in for it. Just the thought of the stench of the Patouli in the Capitol building is enough to scare me.

You're right--allowing states to enforce their own laws (i.e. medical marijuana) is SO LIBERAL. When will those liberals get off of their state's rights/federalist wagon?

Its gotta say something when the only argument you have for re-election is "look how bad they are!" Unforuntately, it would only take any intelligent person five minutes to find equally retarded measures proposed by the GOP to nullify this argument.

Try not to take it too hard after watching the returns on election day guys.

Dustin,

Don't worry, I didn't make any money off you!

And I frequently criticize Republicans. If you read this "stupid ass page" at all you would know that.

Are you suggesting in your post that the Democratic Party has a laundry list of good ideas that I am ignoring? If so, please educate me as to the contents of those proposals. Are you further suggesting that the liberal proposals listed above are harmless items that we need not bother ourselves with?

Yes, this is a list of the most assinine Democratic proposals out there. That is the point! It is worth posting because it illustrates why the Dems cannot be taken seriously. A party with proposals like this is not ready for primetime. Sadly, they appear poised to take center stage despite themselves.

You know its pathetic how this article is written with such bias.

I am a registered republican who no longer votes to my party as it has been hijacked by neocon nutjobs.. I don't agree with nearly any of these proposals. but the athur of this article is so biased. What a snow job you try to paint. You pick the most obscure, worst ideas and present them and them only. Guess what stupid both parties have the same horrible ideas just different approaches.. The not-so liberal Dems want to give to much money to the people anymore and the I'm a Christian nut-job conservatives want to give it to their corporate buddies..

I'm so sorry I ended up on this stupid ass page, I hope to God you made no money on it.. You don't want balance between the two parties go back to where you came from (yup your a immigrant, unless your native)...

The last time Dems won control of the House they held it for 40 years. The Conservatives who are going to sit this one out because Republicans haven't been conservative enough are putting the nation at risk. The idea that the voters will see how crazy San Fran Nan and the rest of her ilk are and sweep them out in 2008 is extremely risky. Sure, it could happen, but if you think it's easy to knock incumbents out of office you've been in the ivory tower too long and haven't worked in any campaigns. I doubt Prof. Insty has ever worked to get someone elected but he sure can pontificate about how R's have lost their way and need to be taught a lesson. Sheesh.

Woody,

This is why you libs are so fun to be around: you're witty, humble, self-effacing, and not at all self-righteous or supercilious. And you put sentences together with aplomb. Very persuasive stuff. Would that we all demonstrated such terrific intellect.
